Ramona Thigpen Wray, 88, wonderful cook and baker

Ramona Thigpen Wray died on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, on her 88th birthday at home. She was born in Beulaville to the late Clarence Gibson Thigpen and Rowena Lanier Thigpen.

Ramona was a wonderful cook and baker. She loved to garden. She was a voracious reader until her eyesight prevented it, but she enjoyed to listen to books on tape. She was a sweet and caring person who never met a stranger. She loved her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Wray; and daughter, Kathy Whitfield Shiels.

Survivors include her daughter, Gail Whitfield Horne of Wilmington; grandchildren, Michael Scott Nethercutt of Wilmington, Michael Eugene Shiels of San Antonio, Texas, and Jennifer Ramona Shiels of Wilmington; siblings, Regina Fountain, Shirley Mercer, Linda Hollingsworth, and C.G. Thigpen of Beulaville.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 2, in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington.
