Wilmington police are investigating the death of an 8-month-old boy who was found dead inside his mother’s vehicle.

According to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Linda Rawley, police suspect the child was left in the car from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to about 5 p.m. No charges have been filed in the case at this time.

Police responded to a dispatch at 5 p.m. Wednesday to a local daycare center in the 4200 block of Wilshire Boulevard, Rawley said. Witnesses reported to dispatchers that the child had been left in his mother’s car and was believed to be dead.

The mother went to the day care to pick up her child, but the child was not there, Rawley said. The child was found dead in his mother’s vehicle. Detectives are still working to “put the pieces together,” she added.

Detectives have not yet determined the child’s cause of death, Rawley said.
