Ray English, 76, of Wilmington, died Monday, May 23, 2016, at Duke University Hospital. He was born May 8, 1940, in Pender County to the late George Scott English and Mazel Rackley English.
Ray graduated from New Hanover High School in 1958. He proudly served in the U.S. Army while stationed in Korea. Ray was an inquisitive person and a keen observer of the world around him. He filled his days with family, gardening, photography, running, tinkering in his workshop and being outdoors.
Ray retired from DuPont in 1992, where he worked as an industrial mechanic for more than 20 years. He continued to work another 16 years as a private contractor with DuPont and DAK America.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Sarah B. English; and a brother, Donald English.
Survivors include his sons, Warren English, and his wife, Cydney Davis-English, and their daughter, Vivienne, and Brian English, and his partner, Kelly Odom; sister, Carolyn McEarchern; brothers, Hugh English, and his wife, Charlotte, and Michael English, and his wife, Francis; special nieces and nephew, Travis, Kathy, Krishna and Aubrey; sisters-in-law, Rose Bishop, Marjorie Campbell and Gayle English; brother-in-law, Charles Bishop; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 29, at Andrews Market Street Chapel, 1617 Market St., Wilmington. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30, in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington. Following the service on Monday, the family will host a reception at Ray’s residence, 2237 Washington St., Wilmington.
