The Topsail softball team is back in the 3A East Regional for a second consecutive year following the Pirates 2-1 victory at home against No. 26 Corinth Holders in Hampstead on Saturday night.

After breezing through their playoff opponents to get into the fourth round of the tournament, Topsail needed pitching, defense and timely hits to pull out the extra inning victory.

Junior Victoria Elder allowed just one run on seven hits over nine innings of work, while Appalachian State commit smacked a walk off RBI single to right field in the ninth to bring in Hunter Bizzell. White was one of four players to have a multi-hit game as the Pirates collected 11 total hits in the contest, but left eight runners on base.

Corinth Holders went ahead in the top of the third after a leadoff walk turned into the game’s first run after Victoria Hendrick crossed the plate on a wild-pitch.

The Pirates drew even in the fourth when Christine McLean drove in Hayley Grizzle with a sacrifice fly. Grizzle started the frame with a single and finished 2-for-4 at the plate. Elder struck out just five in the complete game effort to improve to 13-2 on the stripe this season.

With a three-seed in the 3A bracket, Topsail moved to 26-3 overall. They open the best-of-three 3A East Regional series at top-seeded C.B. Aycock (27-1) on Tuesday, May 24.
