John Ervin ‘Steve’ Stephens, 71, jokester who loved sharing stories

John Ervin ‘Steve’ Stephens, 71, of Supply, received his final set of orders on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, Bolivia, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Sedalia, Mo., on May 3, 1945, the son of the late John Farris and Hattie Moon Farris and was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Stephens, and two brothers.

Mr. Stephens retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service to his country. He also retired from DuPont in Southport. John loved life loved working in his yard and garden, and most of all, telling jokes and listening to good stories. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda M. Stephens of the home; children, Roy Stephens, and his wife, Rae, of Ash, Michael Stephens of Shallotte and Jodie Stephens of the home; stepchildren, Joy McMillan of Shallotte, Tanya Rich, and her husband, Shawn, of Kings Mountain and Michelle Westenbroek of Shallotte; two sisters, Betty Pfeiffer, and her husband, Fred, and Patricia Hazlitt, both of Sedalia, Mo.; and five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of many friends.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a celebration of John’s life at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, at White Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel, 3660 Express Drive, Shallotte, with military honors. A gathering of family and friends will meet one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
