Two men were injured following a shooting Wednesday evening inside a home on Hanover Street.
Neighbors in the area called 911 to report multiple gunshots were fired at the home located in the 1000 block of Hanover Street at 6:46 p.m., according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.
Officers found a 33-year-old man lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the chest when they arrived on scene. The man was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment. The man was identified as a cousin of the 41-year-old woman who lived at the home.
Police met with the 41-year-old resident, who reported that she was cooking when she found her 36-year-old ex-boyfriend hiding in the kitchen with a gun. The woman said she ran out of the home screaming and then heard gunshots, Lindsay said, adding that the woman told police the ex-boyfriend had threatened her earlier.
The police department’s tactical team went inside the home to search for suspects, but gave the home the all-clear when no one was found inside, Lindsay said. The woman’s ex-boyfriend later showed up at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
Lindsay said it wasn’t immediately clear what went on inside the home or how the shooting happened. As of Thursday morning, Lindsay said both men were still at the hospital undergoing treatment for their respective gunshot wounds. One of the men has life-threatening injuries, Lindsay said.
No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing, Lindsay said.
