Hoggard lacrosse falls in regional; high school playoff schedule shifts due to weather

A handful of local teams looking to continue their run through the state playoffs will have to wait at least one more day to get back on the field after storms across much of the state washed out Tuesday’s action.

Listed below are scores from games that did get played, along with an adjusted schedule.


Lacrosse Final Four

No. 1 Cardinal Gibbons 13   No. 1 Hoggard 6

With a chance to clinch the programs first ever state championship berth, the Hoggard boys lacrosse team trailed from the get go in a 13-6 season ending setback in this years 4A East Regional.

The Vikings closed the spring at 18-3 overall.

 NCISAA playoffs

Lacrosse: No. 2 Cape Fear Academy 11    Asheville School 8

The Cape Fear Academy boys lacrosse team earned a spot in this years NCISAA 2A Championship following an 11-8 victory on Tuesday night.

The Hurricanes moved to 15-7 overall and travel to Forsyth Country Day School for the title game on Saturday, May 21. CFA fell 13-12 to Forsyth earlier this season.

4A baseball: No. 3 Hoggard (20-4) vs. No. 6 Sanderson (20-8) PPD until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18

No. 23 New Hanover (17-7) at No. 2 D.H. Conley (22-3) PPD until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18

 3A baseball: No. 17 Topsail (17-9) vs. No. 24 Triton (18-8) postponed until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18 

 2A baseball: No. 11 North Brunswick (15-10) at No. 3 Fairmont postponed until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18 



4A softball: No. 14 Hoggard (22-7) at No. 11 Wake Forest (20-6) PPD until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18.

3A softball: No. 3 Topsail (23-3) vs. No. 6 Northern Nash (16-5) PPD until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18.
