Harriet Ann Lukens Evans, 99, of Leland, passed away at Carillon Assisted Living in Southport on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. She was born in Wilmington, Del., to Wilson and Eliza (Allston) Lukens on November 9, 1916.
Harriet graduated from Wilmington High School, Delaware. She moved to Selbyville, Del., following her marriage to Samuel Elbert Evans Sr. in 1937. She was a homemaker and raised two children. Later, she worked in the family furniture business, Selbyville Furniture Company, retiring in 1977. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Selbyville, Del., and played Bridge and Mah Jongg in Magnolia Greens, Leland, after moving there in 2002.
Harriet was preceded in death by her husband in 1975; and her daughter, Helen Payne Willette, in 2012.
Surviving are her son, Samuel Elbert Evans Jr. (Patricia) of Leland; granddaughter, Susan Chamberlain (Steve) of Salisbury, Md.; grandson, Stephen Payne (Stacey) of Pocomoke City, Md.; four great-grandchildren, Logan and Lucas Chamberlain and Allen and Diana Payne; and son-in-law, Ted Willette, of Salisbury, Md.
In keeping with her wishes, a graveside service will be private and at the convenience of the family.
