Taylor ‘Ray’ Holcomb, 73, of Wilmington, died Thursday, April 28, 2016, in a tractor-trailer accident in New Madrid County, Mo. Ray was born on July 25, 1942, in Mount Airy. He was the son of the late Taylor V. Holcomb and Donie C. Davis.
He served in the U.S. Navy. For many years, he was self-employed in the heating and air conditioning business. A little over 12 years ago, he returned to the road. Ray was employed as an independent contractor with KLLM Transport Services of Jackson, Miss.
With more than a decade on the road, he enjoyed listening to NASCAR, and talk radio while traveling to the Midwest. He spent his life on a softball field, playing golf and throwing darts.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte O. Holcomb.
Ray is survived by five children, Jason Holcomb, LuAnn Barwick (Allen), Michael Holcomb (Beverly), Michelle Holcomb and Mickey Holcomb (Jackie); grandchildren, Samantha Stiller, Nicholas Stiller, Brian Holcomb (Autumn), Brooke Holcomb, Ashley Canter, Allison Papandrew, Joshua Holcomb, Joshua Green, Lacy Green and Jordan Green; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Ryder, Aiden and Justin; and brother, Mickey Holcomb (Yvonne).
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 13, at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market St.,Wilmington. A reception will immediately follow the service at Angie’s Bed and Breakfast located next to the mortuary. The Rev. Charles Drew will be officiating the service.
