Mary Patterson Devine Leopold, 80, died Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at home in Wilmington surrounded by her loving family. The cause of death was lung cancer. Pat was born on December 7, 1935, in New York City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Leopold, 65. Pat and Bob were married in 1971 on Memorial Day weekend in NYC and honeymooned at the Thousand Islands.

Her parents were Jean and Charles Devine of Westport, Conn., and Pat was a 1953 graduate of Staples High School. Her many friends and family were her pride and joy. She loved her son and daughter-in-law, David and Terri Leopold of Norwalk, Conn.; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and James Coster of Pawleys Island; and was devoted to her grandchildren, Bradley Leopold of Seaside, Ore., Kimberly Burke, and her husband, Andrew, of Charleston, William Leopold of NYC and Drew Coster of Charleston; and was delighted by Kim’s children, Pat’s great-grand-children, Bailey and Rowan Burke of Charleston.

Pat was a talented salesperson who worked at the flagship Fifth Avenue showroom of Steuben Glass in NYC and later as a real estate salesperson in her hometown of Westport, Conn. In retirement, Pat and Bob lived at Landfall and were actively involved in the community with a wide circle of friends. As a lover of the arts, Pat volunteered as a docent for the Cameron Art Museum. A lifelong learner, she helped children by tutoring at the Wrightsville Beach School, and as a committed Christian, she served on the Altar Guild of St. Andrews On-the-Sound Episcopal Church.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at St. Andrews On-the-Sound Episcopal Church with interment and a reception immediately afterward.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrews On-the-Sound Episcopal Church, 101 Airlie Road, Wilmington, NC 28405; or Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
