William Osborne ‘Bill’ Allen, 89, of Wilmington, died Monday, May 2, 2016, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born August 11, 1926, in Canton, son of the late William M. and Mayme I. Allen.

After serving in World War II, he graduated from N.C. State University in 1949. After the death of his first wife, William and Ozelle Madelene Mallard were married in 1952. His working years were spent in many aspects of the textile industry. Known as Bill and Ozzie, they lived and worked in several states.

Active in Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Bill served as president of Methodist Men and chairman of the board of trustees. The Wesley Tutors program instituted at Winter Park and Holly Tree elementary schools was most dear to him. He was an alumnus of the first Adult Scholars program at UNCW. His hobbies were tennis and gardening. He and his wife were ballroom dancers and world travelers.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Ozelle; daughter, Madelene Pallamary of Tinton Falls, N.J.; two granddaughters, Lisa Marie Dawson and Christina Diane Spivey; two great-grandchildren, McKinley William Dawson and Maya Lynn Dawson, all of Wilmington; and brother, Robert E. Allen of Pittsboro.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. The family will greet friends at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Methodist Home for Children, or to the charity of one’s choice.
