Mona McLean Riesenberger, 91, met her husband in Brisbane during World War II

Mona McLean Riesenberger, 91, of Plantation Village in Porters Neck, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Mona Riesenberger was born October 30, 1924, daughter of the late James Herbert McLean and Myra Innes McLean of Brisbane, Australia.

She met George Riesenberger, her future husband of 64 years, in Brisbane during his active service in World War II; immigrating to the United States in 1947 to marry. A stay-at-home mom, Mona devoted herself to her husband and children, supporting George’s professional career as a lighting director that included winning three Emmys.

Mona and George had five children, Patricia Haislip, James Riesenberger, Diane Weisz, Donna Moore and Jeffrey Riesenberger (deceased); five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her, Mona will greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 107 Deerfield Drive, Hampstead. Her ashes will be inurned in Sea Lawn Memorial Park, 17750 Highway 17, Hampstead, following the funeral services.

In lieu of flowers, the family recommends a donation toward macular degeneration research.
