Douglas Gibson ‘Doug’ Deacon, 74, of Wilmington, passed away Monday, May 2, 2016, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter. Doug was born April 3, 1942, in Providence, R.I., the son of the late Harold Austin and Emily Gibson Deacon.

He retired from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol as first sergeant of New Hanover and Brunswick Counties. He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Deacon; son, Michael Deacon of Wilmington; brother, David H. Deacon of Cumberland, R.I.; and grandson, Samuel Deacon of Wilmington.

The family will celebrate his life from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. The family would like friends to wear casual attire.
