Topsail 15    South Brunswick 0

The Topsail softball team clinched back-to-back conference championships in emphatic fashion on Thursday night as the Pirates cruised to a 15-0 victory in their regular season finale at South Brunswick.

Topsail pounded 21 total hits in the ball game, scoring all 15 runs over two innings of play. Hunter Bizzell paced the attack in the lead-off spot. The speedy shortstop went 3-for-4, with two runs and one RBI. Hayley Grizzle was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, while Maddy Laster had three runs batted in.

Laster, Alyssa Randall, Keri White, Christine McLean and Danielle Parks added multi-hit games for the Pirates.

Five different pitchers combined to toss a two-hit complete game shutout. Topsail closed the regular season 11-1 in the division and 19-3 overall.


Hoggard 5     Laney 0

The Vikings took two of three games from Laney during the regular season following a 5-0 shutout on Thursday night.

Hoggard grabbed an early lead thanks to a two-run home run off the bat of Nia Green. Melissa Marks doubled to start the frame and Green sent one over the wall in left-center to give the Vikings a 2-0 advantage.

Sarah Benton and Mia Boone also came across to score in the fourth as part of a three-run rally, while Morgan Mathis delivered a complete game shutout to snap Laney’s nine-game winning streak.

Hoggard improved to 8-4 in conference and 16-6 overall. The Bucs dropped to 9-3 in the division and 15-6 to close out the regular season.

Both teams begin play in the Mideastern Conference Tournament on Monday, May 2.


West Brunswick 6    Ashley 1 

Morgan Beeler carried a no-hitter into the seventh for West Brunswick and struck out nine to pitch West Brunswick past Ashley 6-1 on Thursday.

Savannah Branch went 2-for-4 at the plate, with a triple and run batted in for the Trojans.  West Brunswick improved to 13-9 overall.

These two teams will face off in the first-round of the Mideastern Conference Tournament in Shallotte on Monday, May 2.
