Two U.S. Army National Guardsmen were injured after a military vehicle overturned this morning in Brunswick County.

The vehicle overturned around 7:30 a.m. while exiting off the eastbound lane of I-140 on to U.S. 74/76, according N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper D.M. Adams. The tractor trailer was part of a large military convoy owned by the Nebraska Army National Guard that was headed from Sunny Point to Tennessee. The vehicle was carrying shipping containers.

The 21-year-old driver was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, with serious injuries. A 26-year-old passenger was taken to the same hospital via EMS for treatment. His injuries were “not as severe,” Adams said.

Both men are from Nebraska and are members of the Nebraska Army National Guard. The wreck shut down the exit ramps and eastbound lane of I-140 as emergency crews and law enforcement officers worked to clear the scene for nearly six hours Wednesday.
