New Hanover 5 Ashley 0
Adam Pecoraro pitched a complete game shutout to lift the New Hanover baseball team in a 5-0 win against Ashley.
The Screaming Eagles were unable to get a runner in scoring position as Pecoraro allowed three hits, with nine strikeouts. The Wildcats had eight total hits by eight different players. Burke Estes, Blake Walston, Brett Kemp and Lambert Long each had a run batted in.
New Hanover broke a scoreless game with two runs in the bottom of the third. They added one in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
South Brunswick 12 Laney 1
Andrew Phillips had four hits and four runs batted in to lead South Brunswick past Laney with a 12-1 victory.
The Cougars earned a season sweep over the Bucs, improving to 3-6 in the division and 11-7 overall.
South Brunswick plated three runs in the top of the first and made it 5-0 after two innings of play. Zach Kelly tossed 4.2 innings for the Cougars. Kelly added two RBI’s, while Caleb Clemmons had a multi-hit game.
North Brunswick 5 Dixon 1
Jaheed Cason picked up the win on the mound and Cameron Fields led North Brunswick at the plate in a 5-1 win against Dixon.
Topsail 5 West Brunswick 0
The Pirates plated three runs in the top of the first and added two more in their final at-bat as Topsail earned a 5-0 win at West Brunswick on Tuesday.
With the season sweep over the Trojans, the Pirates moved to 10-1 atop the conference and 18-3 overall. West Brunswick dropped to 6-5 in conference and 12-8 on the spring.
Keri White had three of Topsail’s eight hits, while Alyssa Randall went 2-for-3. White scored twice and grabbed a run batted in. Hayley Grizzle added two RBI’s.
Victoria Elder struck out four in a complete game shutout, scattering three hits and one walk. Randall, Hunter Bizzle and Danielle Parks also swiped a pair of stolen bases.
Laney 2 South Brunswick 1
Tristen Horrell struck out seven in a complete game effort to pitch Laney to its nine straight win following a 2-1 victory against South Brunswick on Tuesday.
The Cougars plated their only run in the top of the first, but Laney responded with two in the bottom of the frame to grab a lead it would not surrender. Kirstie Langley and Savannah Capabianco each smacked a double for the Bucs.
Watkins went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Horrell improved to 7-3 on the stripe. Grace Rickman had two hits for South Brunswick.
Laney moved to 9-2 in the conference and 15-5 overall.
Laney 7 South Brunswick 0
Anna Porcelli and Baley Edwards both tallied twice for Laney in a 7-0 shutout against South Brunswick.
Vivian Jones, Courtney Dwertman and Sabine Felix also found the back of the net for the Bucs, who moved to 9-0-1 in the division and 15-1-2 overall.
Laney carries a seven-match winning streak into Thursday’s rematch against Hoggard. Both sides remain unbeaten in league play.
New Hanover 3 Ashley 1
The Wildcats avenged an early season setback to Ashley with a 3-1 victory on Tuesday night. Abbey Campbell, Sally Sloan and Madison Gilbert all found the back of the net for New Hanover.
Flannery Hutko made two saves for the Wildcats, who improved to 5-5 in conference and 7-9-3 overall. Ashley dropped to 5-4 in the division and 7-6-1 this spring.
Topsail 2 West Brunswick 1
Topsail defeated West Brunswick 2-1 in Hampstead on Tuesday.
Carmen Pyrtle scored twice for the Pirates, with assists to Danielle Vara, Elizabeth Canfield, and Lexi Gilley.
Hayley Childress suffered an unfortunate injury late in the made while making a stop with 1:17 left. She finished with six saves before leaving the game after colliding with the left post.
The game resumed with a West Brunswick corner kick, which was headed towards goal, but Amanda Allen covered the shot to secure the win. The Pirates were able to maintain possession and run out the remainder of the clock.
Topsail moved to 2-7 in the division and 7-8-3 overall.
Cape Fear Academy 4 Fayetteville Academy 3
Libby Moore recorded the hat trick for Cape Fear Academy and Delaney Mitchell made eight saves as the Hurricanes pulled out a 4-3 result against Fayetteville Academy on Tuesday.
Cape Fear Academy moved to 5-2 in conference and 6-6-2 overall.
