Robert Francis Werling, 90, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter. He was born in Tiffin, Ohio, on January 12, 1926, to Edward Joseph Werling and Leona Ester Frederitz Werling. He was one of 12 children.
Robert was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was a graduate of Tiffin University and had a successful career in sales with Burroughs Corporation/Unisys Corp. Robert was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Wilmington, and a member of the Elks Club. He enjoyed many leisure activities, including golf (career six holes in one), bowling and billiards.
Robert was devoted to his wife and loved his family and grandchildren. He always worked hard to help his family and others in any way he could.
Robert is survived by his wife, Bette Werling; children, Susan Werling of Palm Springs Fla., and David Werling, and his wife, Jean, of Wilmington; grandchildren, Andrew Werling of Denver, Colo., and Kristen Haag, and her husband, Michael, of Lexington, Ky.; brothers and sisters, Rita Myrann (Jack) of Phoenix, Ariz., Regina Gassner (Lambert) of Tiffin, Ohio, and Gene Werling of Tiffin, Ohio.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, at St. Mark’s Church, 1011 Eastwood Road, Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
