Marion B. Lewis, 86, died peacefully at his home in Wilmington on Monday, April 18, 2016. Marion was born February 18, 1948, in Wilmington to the late Willie M. and Della (Bea) Lewis.
He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Lewis Benson, and her husband, Jonathan, and his only grandson and sidekick, Addison, of Delco; two very special stepsons, T.J. Hamme, and his wife, Barbara, and baby Kayden of Leland, and Ryan Hamme, and his wife, Amber, and their son, Jase, of Buies Creek; brother, Robert Lewis, and his wife, Patti, of Wilmington; sisters, Donna Long, and her husband, Wayne, of Hoover, Ala., and Melody Taylor, and her husband, Randy, of Castle Hayne; and seven nieces and nephews, April, Stephen, Amber, Amy, Josh, Brandon and Krystal.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1967 and was a proud veteran, serving two back-to-back tours in Vietnam. Marion was self-employed for many years with his company, Classic Tile and Reglazing. He was an avid reader and a walking book of knowledge. He loved the mountains, camping, riding Harleys (never a Sportster) and teaching everyone the proper way to cook a pig.
Marion touched many in his journey through life with his entertaining personality, and he never met a stranger. Famously opinionated and short-tempered, Marion handed these qualities to his daughter Amanda ‘Lucy,’ a sharp-tongued character in her own right. He was loved and will be missed by many.
Honoring his request, the family will have a private celebration of life. Marion also requested, ‘In lieu of flowers, please do not vote for Hillary Clinton.’
