Helen Eltha Corbett, 84, of Wilmington, passed from her earthly life on Monday, April 18, 2016, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center surrounded with lots of love by her family.

She was born May 11, 1931, in Uniontown, Pa., one of 13 children of the late Hayes Farwell Liston and Eleanor Veronica O’Brien Liston.

Helen is survived by her six children, Douglas Corbett (Janice), Jeffrey Corbett (Jean), Linda Corbett Thompson (Eric), Brenda Corbett Briggs, Sandra Corbett McNeil (Marty) and Colleen Corbett Welch; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred L. Wood and Mary Elizabeth Blocher; special friend of many years, Bill Blake; and many extended family members and friends.

Helen served her country honorably as a WAC in the U.S. Army and retired from Corning Inc. Having an outstanding alto voice, for many years Helen sang in Moores Creek Baptist Church choir and also taught Sunday school at the church.

Helen was a wonderful mom, loving grandmother and a terrific cook. She was adored by her family and friends and will be remembered for her courage, her energy, her great sense of humor and her thoughtfulness toward others.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Friday, April 22, at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Burgaw Chapel, with the Rev. William Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Atkinson Cemetery.

Flowers are welcome and memorial gifts may be given to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401.
