A Brunswick County educator has been suspended after charges of sexual misconduct with a minor were filed in another state.

Kathleen Capitano, 24, will remain on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation in Fairfax County, Virginia involving a child, Brunswick County school district spokeswoman Jessica Swencki said Monday. Capitano has been a math teacher at Shallotte Middle School since August.

According to warrants issued in Fairfax County, Capitano has been charged with four felony counts of using a computer to either expose herself or solicit the child to do so.

The charges, filed April 16, relate to incidents that occurred between January 2015 and February of this year. Capitano worked as a teacher intern in that county during the 2014-15 school year.

The arrest report designated she was to make her appearance in Fairfax County Juvenile Court on Monday.
