Haley Shand tallied her team-high 18th goal of the season on Thursday night as the Laney Lady Bucs used an early lead and strong effort from Sydney Young at keeper to earn a regular season sweep against New Hanover following a 2-nil result.

With their fourth straight win, Laney moved to 6-0-1 atop the division standings and 12-1-2 overall. The Wildcats fell to 3-4 in conference and 4-8-3 on the year.

The Bucs held a 15-8 shot advantage in the match. Young finished with four saves and Laney carried a 1-0 edge until Alex Butorovich added the insurance goal after the break.

Ashley 1   Topsail 0

Lindsey Williams scored the only goal of the match to lift Ashley to a 1-0 win against Topsail.

The Screaming Eagles remain in the mix with a 4-1 mark in conference, improving to 7-3-1 overall.

South Brunswick 2   Whiteville 0

Gabi Hitchcock broke a scoreless game early in the second half and Eliza Douglass put the finishing touches on the shutout with a goal in the 73rd minute as South Brunswick posted a 2-0 victory against Whiteville.



Hoggard 10   Ashley 1

The Vikings exploded for nine runs in three innings of play and used a dominating effort by Morgan Mathis on the stripe to earn a 10-1 victory against Ashley on Thursday.

Hoggard is now 4-4 in conference and 11-6 overall. The Screaming Eagles dropped to 4-4 in league play and 6-9 overall.

West Brunswick 10    North Brunswick 0

Myah Morse tossed a no-hitter for West Brunswick as the Trojans blanked North Brunswick 10-0 on Thursday.

Morse moved to 5-3 in the circle, while McKenzie Benton and Katelyn Fulford added two hits apiece. Benton homered and Fulford finished with 2 RBI’s.

The Trojans are now winners of six straight, moving to 10-5 on the year. With a 5-2 mark in league play, West Brunswick trails Topsail (6-1, 15-2) by one game in conference.




South Brunswick 12    Trask 1

The Cougars rallied for seven runs in the top of the first en route to a 12-1 victory against Trask.

Kris Keller had three runs batted in. John Frandano and Andrew Phillips added two RBI’s apiece, while Zach Kelly struck out eight in four innings on the mound.
