On Monday, April 11, 2016, Brother Hal A. Langley found the peace that passes all understanding. Hal was born in Onslow County on August 21, 1920, to Dallas and Sarah Langley.

Hal was a paint contractor and began building his own business at the age of 17. He never had to advertise his business due to his work ethic and expertise in his trade. His customers all came from recommendations.

Brother Hal was a long time member of Sunset Park Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and Royal Ambassador leader. Hal also served leading roles in the Wilmington Baptist Association and was able to be part of several mission trips with Pastor Johnny Hunt, serving people in Brazil and Africa. His greatest pleasure in service to the Lord was in working with the boys in the Royal Ambassador organization. There, he helped guide boys into becoming Christian young men through weekly meetings and going on camping trips. Hal also made sure that every boy who wanted to go to summer camp at Camp Caraway was able to go.

Hal was a member of the Gideons International, where he served in leadership roles at the local and state levels. He served in state leadership as the State Gideon chaplain as well as serving on various state committees.

Along with his parents, Hal was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Langley; and brothers, Ralph and Dallas Langley.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his daughters, Nanette Langley, Susan Langley Broadfoot, and her husband, Randall Broadfoot , Charlene Langley Brooks, and her husband, Larry Brooks; faithful companion, Scooter; brothers, Tom Langley and Chet Langley; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at Sunset Park Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. in the fellowship hall prior to the service. A graveside service will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Pastor Johnny Hunt and Pastor Chris Wroten will conduct the services. Pallbearers include Larry Brooks, Randall Broadfoot, Mark Roberson, Chet Langley, James Steele and Tim Martin. Honorary pallbearers will include former members of the Royal Ambassadors and members of the Gideons.

A special thank you to Dr. James Snyder, nurse Tammy Wallace, Dr. Howard Ruscetti and nurse Patti for their care and the difference they made in his life. Also, a special thank you to the loving care received from the staff at Azalea Health and Rehab Center.

Gifts of remembrance may be made to Sunset Park Baptist Church or The Gideons International organization.
