Robert Joseph Hooker Jr., 89, went peacefully to be with the lord on Friday, April 8, 2016, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. He was born in Goldsboro on December 17, 1926, to Robert and Selma Hooker, who preceded him in death. He worked for Carolina Power and Light Company for 37 years.

Robert is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carolyn Bowie Hooker; and his children, Mark Hooker, Cheryl Wortham, Thomas Cole, Susan Hooker, Graham Cole and Lisa Bedson; son-in-law, James Bedson; stepson, Ben Horne; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and his faithful companion, Gabbie.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Sam Zumwalt officiating. A reception will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, or the Youth Fund at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Lower Cape Fear Hospice for the exceptional care they provided to him and his family. A special thank you for the loving care provided by his hospice home-care team Beth, Tamika and Jean.
