The Seahawks welcome 12 teams to the two-day event, which begins on Saturday, April 9, with the first and second rounds. The third round is scheduled to take place on Sunday, with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
Senior Meghan Theiss and sophomore Kayla Thompson lead the Seahawks into this weekend’s tournament after posting top-20 finishes last weekend at the Clemson Invitational. Theiss earned a share of 15th place after finishing with a 3-over par score of 219, including a 2-under 70 in the opening round.
Meanwhile, Thompson claimed a tie for 18th place with a 4-over score in the 54-hole tournament, including a 2-under 70 in the second round.
Theiss and senior Annette Lyche are tied for the team lead with a 75.11 scoring average while Thompson has posted a 75.28 mark.
This year marks the 16th edition of the River Landing Classic. UNCW is the only school to compete in the tournament every year.
Columbia returns to defend its team title at the River Landing Classic, while last year’s individual medalist, Jacqueline Chulya, also attempts to earn a second straight crown.
Yale and Harvard will be making their first-ever appearances in the River Landing Classic. Since the inception of the tournament in 2001, a total of 64 schools have participated in the event. The 13-team tournament field features four teams from the Ivy League (Columbia, Penn, Harvard, Yale).
Penn State also returns to the River Landing Classic for the first time since 2002. It will be the Nittany Lions’ third appearance in the tournament.
