Vivian Newton Coates, 75, of Wilmington, passed away Monday April 4, 2016, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She was born in Wilmington on October 24, 1940, the daughter of the late Herbert Edward and Glenna Carr Newton Sr.
Vivian was a faithful member of Apostolic Tabernacle. She was employed at DuPont Chemical Corporation as a laboratory technician for 25 years.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Herbert E. Newton Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Allen Coates; one son, Ogbonna A. Coates, and his wife, Yolanda, of Charlotte; brother, Douglas Newton of Wilmington; sister, Zenobia Newton of Wilmington; and two grandchildren, Adia Brice-Coates and Kamran Coates.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 11, at Apostolic Tabernacle, 712 Wellington Ave., Wilmington. The family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
