Junior Aaron Civale allowed one earned run over eight innings, while Zach Perry and Max Burt had three hits apiece as Northeastern raced past UNCW 9-4 in the opening game of a Colonial Athletic Association series on Friday at Friedman Diamond.
The Huskies improved to 2-2 in the league and 12-12 overall. The Seahawks, meanwhile, fell to 15-8 and 2-1 in the circuit.
With the game tied 1-all, Northeastern struck for four runs on four hits in the sixth inning to establish a 5-1 lead. Josh Treff highlighted the outburst with a three-run homer off reliever Austin Magestro.
Civale (4-1) earned the win after holding UNCW in check all game. The right hander allowed three runs, one earned, on seven hits. He finished with two walks and struck out five.
Zach Perry finished with three runs batted in with the last two coming across on a home run in the eighth inning. Josh Treff also homered, a three-run shot, in the sixth inning.
UNCW starter Ryan Foster (5-1) suffered his first loss of the season after being roughed up for four runs over five-plus innings. Steven Linkous led the Seahawks with three hits and Nick Feight added a two-hit game.
The teams will continue the series with an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
