Jack Prendergast, 85, of Leland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 31, 2016, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in the warm embrace of his family. He was born in Lamont, Iowa, on January 2, 1931, the son of Patrick V. Prendergast and Angela Whitney Prendergast.

Jack served his country with honor and distinction as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps for over 21 years until his retirement. After his service, he continued working as a yarn spinner for the Dupont Corporation.

He is survived by his son, Mark Prendergast; daughter, Tasha Cleveland, and her husband, Craig; grandchildren, Madison and Caleb Cleveland; sisters, Eileen Deptolla, Maureen Baier and Peggy Marlowe; brother, Richard Prendergast; and his furry friend, Bella.

Together with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Prendergast; and son, Patrick Prendergast.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation, Leland Chapel, 525 Village Road, Leland, NC 28451.
