Etta Mae Smith Padrick, 101, of Wilmington and formerly Hampstead, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016, at The Commons of Brightmore.

She was born September 1, 1914, in Kinston, the daughter of the late Albert Smith and Etta Henderson Smith. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, John Jesse Padrick; a daughter, Cheryl Kay Padrick Branch; and grandson, Adam Ferguson.

Etta was a lady of many talents who enjoyed painting with oils, knitting, doing crafts, dancing, singing and quilting. She was the wife of the former Chief of Police John Jesse Padrick and enjoyed spending time in the company of her family. Etta was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she was very active in the genealogy department for over 30 years.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Gloria Steele Padrick Arnold of Churchville, Md.; four grandchildren, Charles Derick Arnold, John Frederick Arnold, Gloria Kay Branch Davis and Bryan Arthur Branch; great-grandchildren, Courtney Paige Davis, Brooke Amber Davis Dodd, Gibson Frederick Arnold, Delaney Jane Arnold, Rudolf Charles Arnold and Addison Mae Arnold; great-great grandchildren, Mason Dodd and Wyatt Dodd; and numerous other loving family members.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 14224 U.S. Hwy 17, Hampstead, NC 28443. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
