Michael Byron ‘Gus’ Gorton, 52, of Wilmington, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016.

Mike was born in Fayetteville on March 27, 1963. He was a graduate of New Hanover High School and spent his youth on Wrightsville Beach. He loved surfing, fishing, and anything to do with the ocean. But, his greatest love was his love for the Lord. Mike was a member of Silver Lake Baptist Church, and one of his true joys in life was singing and playing his guitar with his buddies.

He is survived by his mother, Frances Holland Reed; sister, Tracy Swint Bickle; uncles, Ralph Holland, and his wife, Connie, and Harvey Holland, and his wife, Marsha; nieces, Mikaela Cupp and Hannah Blanton; nephew, John Michael Cavanaugh; as well as many loving cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at Silver Lake Baptist Church, 4715 Carolina Beach Road. Pastor Lenier Furr and Pastor Steve Gasque will officiate the service. Music will be performed by Mike’s friends.

At Mike’s request, his ashes will be scattered in the Atlantic Ocean at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation in Mike’s honor at TMCFunding.
