An elderly couple has been identified as the victims of the fatal Brunswick County wreck Monday morning.
Paul Setnicky, 88, and Anna Setnicky, 92, of Boiling Spring Lakes, died in the single-vehicle wreck reported at about 10:30 a.m. Monday on N.C. 87, just south of its intersection with N.C. 133, according to N.C. State Highway Patrol Trooper M.E. Gore.
Paul Setnicky was the driver of a white Toyota van that ran off the road to the left, struck a ditch, a fence and then a tree, Gore said. The wreck overturned the vehicle. Witnesses reported the vehicle drove straight through the curb on N.C. 87, he added.
Paul Setnicky was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, Anna Setnicky, was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where she later died.
“We’re really unclear right now as to what happened, other than the vehicle running off the road,” Gore said about the investigation Monday morning.
Speed, alcohol or impairment from any other drugs were not a factor in the wreck, Gore said. While the investigation is ongoing, Gore said he has found no mechanical issues with the van.
