With New Hanover County Schools getting back to a regular schedule this week, students in Brunswick County are now on break following Easter, but athletes will be busy playing tournament ball over the next few days in Shallotte.

The 2016 Touchstone Energy Beach Diamond Invitational will take place March 28-30. Held each year at West Brunswick High School, the Diamond Trojans welcome seven other ball clubs to the three-day event.

North Brunswick joins its cross-county foe at the tournament as the Scorpions take on West Brunswick in the nightcap at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Also making the trip from Kernersville will be East Forsyth High School. The Eagles are led by first-year Coach Drew Dull, who served as an assistant and teacher at West Brunswick for a number of years before returning to his hometown to guide his alma mater. East Forsyth is 6-3 on the year heading into the week.

West Brunswick is one of the hottest teams across the area through the first month of the season. The Trojans are 9-1 overall and riding an eight-game winning streak heading into this week’s tournament. They are currently atop the division standings with a 3-0 mark in conference.

The West Brunswick softball team also plays three games during the break against Davie, East Forsyth and Richmond.
