Mack Joseph Linton Sr., 86, of Oak Island and formerly of Fayetteville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 25, 2016.

Mr. Linton was born May 5, 1929 in Louisiana. He retired from the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts as part of the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg. Mr. Linton was a longtime member of Beach Road Baptist Church, where he was known for his warm and welcoming hugs. Mack was an avid fisherman and fished as long as he was able.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice N. Linton; a daughter, Deborah Kaye Linton Catron; a son, Joey Linton; and a grandson, Justin Nathaniel Linton.

Survivors include his daughter, Mary Sue Jones; son, Richard Wayne Linton; five grandchildren, Amanda Naomi Catron, Kimberly Ann Cruz, Kelly Marie Trummell, Larry James O’ Steen and Corey Damon O’ Steen; an honorary family member, Emma Brooks Mangum; as well as many great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 31, at Beach Road Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church one hour prior to the service. A graveside committal service will follow at 3 p.m. in Oak Ridge Cemetery, St. Paul’s.
