William Bryant ‘Bill’ Cooper Sr., 85, left this world to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, surrounded by his family and friends. Bill was born to the late George and Naomi Cooper in Wilmington on February 12, 1931.

Once retired, Bill used his carpentry skills to make wooden crosses by hand for fellow believers. His interests included family, woodworking and fishing. He devoted much of his time and energy to his church, Gospel Fellowship Holiness Church in Castle Hayne, where he was a faithful member and deacon.

He is preceded in death by his brothers; Jack and Dewey, his parents; and his grandson, Michael Sheppard.

Bill was blessed with a large and loving family. He is survived by his wife, Catherine M. Cooper; his son, Billy Cooper Jr. (Janice); his daughters, Wanda Bryant (Clayton), Linda Jarrett (Gary), Faye Gillen, Loretta Greene (Rudolph) and Lorene Luffman (Randy); 13 grandchildren, Robert, April, Christa, Jerry, George, Tabitha, Donald, Michelle, Eugene, Kim, Miranda, Ray Jr., and Bryan; 27 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 1535 South 41st St., Wilmington. A funeral service will follow visitation at 7 p.m. led by the Rev. Robert Wilson and the Rev. William Cooper Jr. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 28, in Prospect Cemetery, for those who can attend.
