Gary Wesley Huggins, of Wilmington, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday, March 21, 2016. He was born in Wilmington February 27, 1950, the son of the late William Wesley Huggins Jr. and Bettie Stone Huggins.
Gary was a CPA and the sole proprietor of his accounting firm in Wilmington for over 30 years. He was a graduate of University of North Carolina Wilmington and North Carolina State Univeristy and a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity while at UNCW.
Gary was devoted to his family. He inherited a love of the water from his father and spent many happy hours on the water fishing with his sons. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Lula Mathews Huggins; three sons, Walton Wesley Huggins and Shannon Brittany Kidney, Jonathan Edward Huggins and Lauren Ashley Cussins and Alexander William Huggins (and all of his girls); his sister, Gayle Huggins McCue, and her husband, Craig; nephew, Travis Tyler McCue, and his wife, Nichole; niece, Meghan McCue Clark, and her husband, Andrew; and three great nieces and one great nephew. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Roberts, and her husband, Tom, Donna M. Chesser, and her husband, Homer; brother-in-law, Donald E. Mathews, and his wife, Beth; three nieces and two nephews; and his uncle, Harry Stokley Huggins, and his wife, Jane.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 24, at St. James Episcopal Church.
