Larry Gordon Pendleton Jr. passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016.
Larry was born August 2, 1937, in Roanoke, Va. He obtained a degree from Virginia Tech, then went on to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves. He enjoyed a lengthy career in federal government contracts with the Navy Department, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, and NASA, at the Kennedy Space Center and at headquarters in Washington, D.C. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he served as director of contracts with the Multinational Force and Observers, a peacekeeping mission in the Sinai desert.
After retirement, he and Lynn moved to Wilmington, where he served as a master gardener at the Arboretum and also volunteered at the Bellamy Mansion.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn; daughter, Bonnie Baranowski (Jeffrey); son, Craig Pendleton (Caroline); and twin grandchildren, Nathan and Heidi Pendleton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Evelyn Pendleton.
Visitation with the family will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday, March 21, with a memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. at Andrews Market Street Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Duke Cancer Institute or the Nature Conservancy.
