JoAnn Farr Porter, 69, of Wilmington, went peacefully to sleep on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Carlie K. Porter Sr.; and two sons, Carlie K. Porter Jr. and Harvey D. Porter of Wilmington.
She is survived by three sisters, her twin sister, Jean Farr Styles of Largo, Fla., Pat Farr Cook of Wilmington and Betty Farr DiPietro of Mansfield, Mass.
She was born at James Walker Memorial Hospital on November 22, 1946, to Charlie L. and Edna Register Farr. She graduated from New Hanover High School. Mrs. Porter was retired, but she worked many years at Singer Company.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charlie L. and Edna R. Farr; her brothers, Charlie L Farr Jr., Lloyd Clifton Farr and Harvey L. Farr; and her sister, Helen E. Farr McNeill.
Special thanks to the staff, nurses, and doctor at Lower Cape Fear Hospice for the wonderful loving care, not only extended to our loved one, but to all our family members. We will always be thankful. We will also remember the generosity of the community and churches that provided food to all the families at the facility. Thank you for everything that was done to help our family get through this heart-breaking time.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11 a.m. Interment will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
