The dream of playing professional soccer recently became a reality for former UNCW men’s soccer standout Colin Bonner after signing with FC Dallas of Major League Soccer.
Bonner, a three-time All-Colonial Athletic Association selection, led the Seahawks in scoring with 20 points, including seven goals and six assists. He was tied for third in the CAA in goals and points and received CAA Co-Player of the Week honors after netting three goals in a 5-1 win over North Florida on Sept. 4.
In addition, the First-Team All-State honoree became the first UNCW men’s soccer student-athlete to be awarded First-Team CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors and was a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award. The Fulton, Md., product received the William and Deborah Rudisill Scholarship in Athletics Endowment and was named as the CAA’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The 45th overall selection in January’s MLS SuperDraft, Bonner finished his career as the ninth-leading scorer in Seahawk annals with 61 points, while starting 72-of-75 games. He ranks 10th all-time with 23 goals and his 15 career assists are tied for seventh on the all-time list.
