Marion Hightower Childs Simmons, 94, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016, in Waycross, Ga., while visiting her only son, James B. Childs Jr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Lola Hightower of Barnesville, Ga. and Atlanta, Ga.; and her husband of 44 years, James M. Simmons.

Marion was born in Bamesville on August 26, 1921, and moved to Atlanta when she was four years old. She graduated from Atlanta Girl’s High School in 1939. After graduating, she married James B. Childs, the father of her only child. She was divorced in 1948.

She married James Simmons in 1965, and they traveled the world together. She was employed by Eastern Airlines for 18 years. After she retired from Eastern Airlines, she and James moved to Wilmington, where they were members of Temple Baptist church. They enjoyed collecting antiques and visiting friends in and around North Carolina.

A private memorial service was held in Waycross, Ga.
