Wilmington police are searching for a white truck that reportedly hit an ambulance and fled from the scene early Monday morning.
The wreck happened at the intersection of Park Avenue and Hawthorne Drive in Wilmington at about 1:25 a.m., according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Linda Rawley.
A Nissan Frontier pick-up truck struck an ambulance traveling North on Hawthorne Drive, headed toward Cape Fear Memorial Hospital with a patient on board, Rawley said.
The Nissan allegedly fled the scene, Rawley said. Witnesses reported the truck drove east on Park Avenue. Police are searching for the truck, which possibly has damage to its right front grill and front right passenger side.
The suspect vehicle is described as a white Nissan Frontier truck between model years 2005 and 2009. The truck has a camper shell and ladder rack, with red lettering on its sides. The vehicle is possibly used in construction for sheet metal or roofing.
