Shirley Poole Reaves

On Friday, March 11, 2016, Shirley Poole Reaves, 79, with her beautiful blue eyes and loving, friendly smile, departed her earthly home to go to her heavenly home to join her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Shirley was born in Charlotte, the only child of the late William M. Poole Jr. and Mary E. Poole. She married Ray Reaves on November 24, 1955.

Shirley was a member of College Acres Baptist Church. Before the awful illness attacked, she was very active in her church Sunday school class. She was also in the church senior group, Prime Timers; a member of the Prime Timers Choir and the Senior Group Decorating Committee.

Shirley’s love for the medical profession brought her in contact with a very special person, Dr. Luke Sampson. They worked together as a team. ‘Thank you, Dr. Sampson, for the love and care that you gave to my wife.’ Ray.

Other joys in Shirley’s life were her mountain trips, especially her girlfriend trips for one week (no husbands allowed); gardening with pretty flowers; traveling America, living in Germany while Ray was in the U.S. Army; and most of all, being a friend to everyone she met. So much more could be told. Thank you my beautiful blue-eyed lady with the loving smile. We lost an angel on earth – God gained one in heaven.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Reaves; son, Brian R. Reaves, and wife, Julie; grandchildren, Brandyn and Brantley; step-grandchildren, Brittany and Brianna Pickett; and also Adam, Timothy and Rebekah, and their mother, Patty.

Special thanks to Shirley’s caregivers, Fran Mitteness and Robin Booher, and Lower Cape Fear Hospice.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, at College Acres Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Keatts and Dr. Glenn Bohannon officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC, 28401; or College Acres Baptist Church, 702 Eastwood Road, Wilmington, NC, 28403.
