Roland Albert Bowen Jr., 87, of Wilmington, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter, Wilmington.

He was born in Wilmington on April 29, 1928, a son of the late Roland Albert Bowen Sr. and Beulah Stokely Bowen. His wife of 60 years, Betty Lois Johnston Bowen, preceded him in death as well as a son, James Allen Bowen, and a brother, Paul Fredrick Bowen.

Mr. Bowen was owner and operator of Al’s Electric Service in Wilmington. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of American Legion Post No. 10.

Surviving are his children, Judy Ann Spithaler, and husband, Ronnie, of Stanley, and Donna Marie Gay of Southport; grandchildren, Earl Eason Gay III, Allison Sugg, Alexis McWane, Matthew Bowen, Garrett Bowen and Marty Spithaler; great-grandchildren, Brian Cavallo, Brayden Sugg, Logan Sugg and Natalee Gay; and siblings, Charles G. Bowen of Wilmington, Esther McCabe of New York and June Schapanski of Virginia Beach, Va.

Service information will be announced by Andrews Mortuary & Crematory.
