Crew members with the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Diligence are hosting several workout sessions with the community in the coming weeks.
Beginning Tuesday, March 15, the community is invited to join the Diligence crew for a six-week workout series on called “DILI Fit,” according to U.S. Coast Guard Spokeswoman ENS Elizabeth Runci. The sessions will take place at noon every Tuesday between March 15 and April 19, accept for the session held on Monday, March 28. The workout sessions are free and open to the public.
“The entire community is invited to join us each week to see how the Coast Guard stays in shape,” Runci said. “With the ship in port … it will open people up a little more to what we do.”
This is the first workout series of its kind held with the Diligence crew. The series is aimed at getting the crew “more involved with the community and downtown scene,” Runci said.
““This is a new thing for us. We thought it would be fun and cool to do with the local community,” she said.
The Diligence crew will begin stretching and gearing up for the sweat session, which involves body weight workouts, cadence runs on the riverfront and more. The workout includes exercises for all ability levels. The workout sessions will be held on the following dates: March 15, 22, 28 and April 5, 12, and 19.
Check the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Diligence Facebook page for more information and to RSVP for any and all workout sessions. Community members are asked to bring a water bottle, workout attire, workout mat, and a great attitude.
The Coast Guard Cutter Diligence is a 210-foot medium endurance cutter with a crew of about 80 Coast Guard members, whose primary missions consist of counter drug and migrant interdiction, enforcing federal fishery laws and conducting search and rescue operations. The ship recently returned from a 59-day patrol in the Florida Straits, during which they rescued 20 migrants from unseaworthy vessels.
The Diligence homeport is located at Wilmington’s riverfront along Water Street at the foot of Princess Street.
