Wilmington YMCA opens 2016 race series with Beach Dash this weekend

The spring running season is approaching with several big events coming to the Port City over the next few weeks and months.  The Wilmington Family YMCA will hold its third annual YCC Beach Dash presented by ReMax Essential at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12.

This family-friendly obstacle course sponsored will take place at Fort Fisher State Recreation Area in Kure Beach. Now in its third year, the 1.4-mile YCC Beach Dash features two brand-new obstacles as the course has participants climb, slide, crawl and dash down the beach, while getting messy during a push through three different blast stations.

YCC Beach Dash sponsor North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher will also offer free admission to every Beach Dash participant.

This event marks the end of the 2015 YCC Run Series and beginning of the 2016 YCC Run Series.

The current year series marks the Fourth Annual Old State Wealth Management Coastal Carolina Run Series, which consists of  12 events across Coastal Carolina: nine 5K races, two 10K races, one family obstacle course and two special event races.

 The more races you run, and the higher the finish, the more points you earn. The series spans Coastal Carolina, ranging from Ocean Isle Beach, Shallotte, Wilmington, and Jacksonville as participants compete alongside athletes of all ages. Runners must participate in at least three events to compete in the series.

Award winners for the 2015 series will receive their prize at this weekend’s YCC Beach Dash.
