Charles Wesley Williams, 69, former police officer and owner of Village Mart at Shallotte Point

Charles Wesley Williams, 69, of Shallotte, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center.

He was born in Brunswick County on June 13, 1946, the son of the late Zadie and Ruth Pigott Williams. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, James Hearth Williams, William Henderson Williams and Legwin Willie Williams.

Charles attended First Baptist Church of Shallotte. He and his wife were owners of the Village Mart at Shallotte Point since 1982. He was a former police officer with the Shallotte Police Department, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and Bladenboro Police Department for many years. He a veteran of U.S. Army National Guard.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Carole Lynn Williams of the home; two sons, Charles Wesley Williams Jr. of Shallotte and Jeffrey Scott Williams of Supply; a brother, Milton Williams of Ocean Isle Beach; three sisters, Lila Ruth Whelley, Joyce McNair and Emma Jane Sengsir, all of Shallotte; one grandson, Jordan Scott Williams; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 11, at White Funeral and Cremation Service, Shallotte Chapel, with the Rev. Maurice Milligan and the Rev. Landis Lancaster officiating. Interment will follow in the Gurganus Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rodney Gause, Christopher Cheers, Conrad Bulak, Kyle Bulak, William McRainey and Eddie Bellamy. Honorary pallbearer will be Gordon Winfree.
