Isabel Melvin Benson, formerly of Wilmington, died Saturday March 5, 2016, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston Salem. Isabel was a POW group member and worked as a secretary, retiring from Mary C. Williams Elementary School.

She was born August 31, 1924, in Rocky Point, daughter of the late Isaac Melvin and Berta Futch Melvin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Benson.

Surviving is her daughter, Karen Lowry of Walkertown, and a grandson, Sam Lowry.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
