Bobby Ray Chester, Sr., 78, of Leland, passed away Saturday, March 05, 2016, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Born November 25, 1937, in Kibbee, Ga., he was the son of the late Milo E. Chester and Minnie Lee Wynn Chester. He was also preceded in death by his son, Bobby R. Chester Jr.; and siblings, Rosabell Strickland, Eugene Chester, Mary Carter Barker, Rudolph Chester and Ilamay Chester.

He served in the U.S. Marines and enjoyed tinkering and restoring tractors with his best friend and neighbor, Terry Byrd.

Mr. Chester was passionate about God, church and his family. He was very involved in Bridge of Life Community Church in Leland. He and his loving wife, Patricia, were soulmates, and for 56 years, nurtured their wonderful family together.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Chinnis Chester; a daughter, Anita Lynn Chester; granddaughters, Kathy Garrett and Kassie Day (Jesse); grandson, Marcus Ray Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Jesse and Sadie; siblings, Pearl Lundy, Clifton Chester (Gwendolyn), Frances Baumgardner, Sandra Graham (Gabe) and Shirley Hardy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 7, at Andrews Market Street Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, at Bridge of Life Community Church, 2220 Mercantile Drive NE, Leland, NC 28451, with Pastor Jerome Bullard officiating. Interment will be in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
