Senior right-hander Ryan Foster put in a strong performance on the mound as UNCW had three players with multi-hit games to grab a 5-1 win over visiting Penn State in the first of a three-game series on Saturday at Brooks Field.
The Seahawks ran their record to 7-1 over and remained perfect at home at 7-0. Penn State, meanwhile, dipped to 2-6 with the loss. It was their fourth consecutive setback.
Foster (3-0) picked up his third win in as many starts, while limiting the Nittany Lions to an unearned run on one hit and three walks over a season-long 7.2 innings.
Steven Linkous finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases, giving him 10 on the young season. Gavin Stupienski added two singles and drove in a run, while Nick Feight belted his third homer of the season in the second inning and later added a double in the eighth.
Tied at one in the third inning, Linkous opened the frame with a double to left and scored two batters later on a Stupienski ground ball to the right side. Feight followed Stupienski with a homer to right center for a 3-1 UNCW lead.
The series continues on Sunday with another 2 p.m. start and concludes on Monday with first pitch set for 4 p.m.
