Ruby Formyduval Dawson, 85, died peacefully on Monday, February 29, 2016, at her residence.
She was born March 29, 1930, in Ash, the daughter of the late Orson Pratt and Annie Faulk Formyduval. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Dawson of Wilson; and four sisters and three brothers.
Surviving are one sister, Esther Roberts of Houston, Texas; three sons, Terry Blackburn (Bess) of Wilmington, Tim Blackburn (Linda) of Littleton and Mark Blackburn (Donna) of Wilmington; one step-daughter, Linda D. Capps of Newport and two sisters-in-law, Leola Formyduval of Whiteville and Lois Formyduval of Shallotte; special friends, Lynn Allen, Nancy Russell, Joyce Ward and Tina Hudspeth; and six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
A special thanks to Community Homecare & Hospice and also to Dr. Kavita Persaud and the staff of Carolina Geriatrics for the many years of kindness and caring.
She was a retired homemaker and fashion associate for J.C. Penney in Wilson. Devoted to her many family and friends, Ruby possessed a wicked sense of humor and always had a joke to share. She was an avid reader and solver of the New York Times daily crossword puzzle.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, at the Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel in Shallotte with Pastor Rick Howell officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
