On Friday, February 26, 2016, Lester Bell Rodgers, 85, of Bolivia, went to heaven to be with his wife of 43 years, Betty J. Rodgers. He was born December 27, 1930, in Kewanee, Ill., to the late Raymond and Ruth Rodgers.
Mr. Rodgers was a retired U.S. Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sergeant, with 24 years of service, including a tour in Vietnam. Following his retirement from the U.S. Marine Corps, he worked at Babcock and Wilcox Navy Nuclear Fuel Division in Lynchburg, Va. Mr. Rodgers was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church and the American Racing Pigeon Union, and he enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include three sons, Kurt B. Rodgers, and wife, Deanna, of Rockford, Ill., Phillip S. Hogan, and wife, Heather, of Bedford, Va., and Duane B. Hogan, and wife, Donna, of Castle Hayne; four daughters, Pam Rodgers of Venice, Fla., Jan Rodgers of Sheffield, Ill., Sue Spratt, and husband, Steve, of Princeton, Ill., and Lisie Stephenson, and husband, Marshall, of Carolina Beach; nine grandchildren, Stephanie Pratt Molln, Caleb Rodgers-McMurray, Brandon Kirby, Christina Kirby, Jasara N. Hogan, Kyle Hogan, Lindsay Hogan, Daniel Lucas and Devin Lucas; three great-grandchildren, Kyle Molln, Ash Hogan and Anna Lee Lucas; and three nieces Barb, Mary and Kaye. He was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Hereford.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Service in Southport. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 4, in the mausoleum chapel at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington.
