Bernard D. Malman, 79, died Thursday, February 25, 2016. Bernie was married for 50 wonderful years to his wife, Judy. He enjoyed his daughters, Sheri Malman and Nancy Rodgers; his son-in-law, Bart Rodgers; and terrific grandchildren, Caroline and Charlie.

He graduated from Walnut Hills High School in 1954, and the University of Cincinnati in 1958. In 1959, Bernie started work at his family-owned Sidney Printing Works. By the time he retired, 43 years later as vice president of sales, he had mastered the art of customer service. His customers weren’t just always right, they were always friends.

Bernie embraced Wilmington as his second home in 2002, becoming involved in numerous organizations. He was a docent at the Cameron Art Museum; a guardian ad litem; a mentor, for over 10 years, with the Cameron Executive Network. He served in a variety of positions with the Landfall Property Owners Association, including three years on the board of directors, one as vice chairman of the Property Owners Association. Most recently, he was excited to have been one of the first residents at Carolina Bay.

Bernie was a Mason. He was a Rotarian with 22 years of perfect attendance. He was a husband, father, grandfather, friend and mentor. He never met a stranger, was always ready with his unmistakable laugh, a smart remark, or a good joke. Inevitably, he became the honorary mayor of wherever he was.

Please send no flowers; instead Bernie requested donations to the B’nai Israel Congregation Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 7104, Wilmington, N.C. 28406; or the charity of one’s choice.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 28, at B’nai Israel Congregation, 2601 Chestnut Street, Wilmington, NC.
